Entrance barrier matting explained

Barrier matting, also known as entrance matting, is usually a fixed matting system made from aluminium or rubber, and features inserts made of carpet, nylon brushes, or rubber/PVC scrapers. Barrier matting is designed to stop moisture and debris from being tracked into a building and can offer many aesthetic and practical benefits for any business.

Entrance matting system FAQs

Why do I need entrance matting?

Our entrance matting products effectively remove dirt and absorb moisture from both footwear and trolleys. A well-presented reception area or entrance provides a positive first impression that visitors, and potential customers, will remember about your business and brand. To reinforce a positive brand experience, there is the option to incorporate a company logo or branding into your entrance matting system with our customisable Logo Matting.

What are the dangers of bad entrance matting?

In the absence of sufficient matting, slips and raised cleaning costs can become a concern, especially in wet weather. We sometimes find buildings, where the entrance matting has been incorrectly specified. This could mean the length is not substantial enough, to cope with the level of daily traffic, or that the product duty and material selected isn’t appropriate for the environment. See our eBook A Guide to Entrance Matting Specification, to ensure you get the best performing system for your specifications.

What are the benefits of an entrance matting zoning system?

An entrance, which uses a zoning system delivers the most optimum performance, ensuring internal floors are kept clean and hazard free – see our tips for first time entrance matting buyers. We offer a range of options, suitable for zones 1 (exterior), zones 2 (primary) and zones 3 (secondary). However, we understand that budgets can often be limited, in which case, primary interior entrance matting is the first stage to consider.

Do you offer any support to specify entrance matting?

To help you find the perfect entrance matting, we’ve developed an easy-to-use app, Mats in Mind. The mobile app recommends the most suitable types of entrance matting, to suit your entrance and project requirements. Or if you need in-person assistance, you can book a site audit with one of our experienced Account Managers.

Do you install entrance matting?

Once you’ve selected your entrance matting, we’ll even install it for you as part of our Supply and Install Service. This service leaves nothing to chance. You can relax, with peace of mind, that the right product has been specified first time, and will be installed by trained professionals to the highest of standards.

Our entrance matting range also features EasyInstall™ entrance matting products ideal for recessed entrance wells. The Premier Grip, Premier Track and Premier Star Gripper Plus is part of this range.

How do you install an entrance matting system?

Entrance matting can be installed in many different ways. This all depends on the application of the site. An entrance mat can be loose laid and rounded with PVC edging to avoid a trip hazard or it can be installed into a recess (also called a matwell). If the mat is to be installed in a recess the screed must be prepared and a specific glue is required.

Contact our dedicated installation team today to assist you with your installation.
