Contamination Control

Due to COVID-19, contamination control or disinfectant mats have become more important than ever before. COVID-19 no longer affects our daily lives but we are exposed to various bacteria and viruses. People, animals and equipment often contaminate areas when they move between buildings and rooms, but it’s good to know that you can reduce the spread of walked-in bacteria right from the start. By using contamination control floor mats at both internal and external entrances you can curb the spread of germs.  Here is our range of contamination control disinfectant mats, including tacky mats, anti-microbial floor mats and entrance mats. Manufacturers design these disinfectant mats to improve hygiene and reduce walked-in bacteria and other particles. In addition to our mats for contamination control, our floor tape and floor mats for social distancing help maintain the correct safety distance in the healthcare sector.

Curb contamination with Disinfectant Matting

New technologies enabled manufactures to create mats that provides effective shoe sole disinfection. These types of mats are being used in a wide range of environments outside of the more usual industries such as healthcare, food and pharmaceuticals. There has been an upward trend for office buildings, public institutions and private households being more concerned about infection control. Within this range, you can find our loose lay disinfectant floor mat and anti-microbial doormat.

The Entra-Clean Hygiene + is the first range of entrance mats, with the active ingredient OEKO-TEX®. This is an antimicrobial and virus-reducing technology. The contact between the shoe sole and the disinfectant means that dirt is fought quickly and effectively. We recommend any  COBA disinfection mat for these applications.

How do Sanatising mats work?

Sanitising mats, or disinfectant mats, reduce the risk of bacterial spread by removing dirt and penetrating microbes from shoe soles. Sanitising mats can also be filled with disinfectant solution and paired with a moisture control mat. New technologies are making it possible to equip mats without the use of liquid. These new mats have antimicrobial properties, this is done through the use of a biocide.

COBA Care – 3 Simple Steps to Contamination Control

According to research published by the CDC, carried out in Wuhan, China, viruses (including Covid-19) float to the floor. These viruses are carried on the soles of shoes, spreading from room to room, posing a high contamination risk. Disinfectant mats between areas greatly reduces the risk of contaminants spreading.

  1. Place COBA Care Disinfectant Shoe Bath on a level surface and fill with COBA Care Disinfectant Solution. Place the absorbent Moisture Control Mat second.
  2. Step into the Disinfectant Shoe Bath. As you walk on the spot, the resilient rubber nodules scrape the dirt, while the disinfectant solution cleans and sanitises.
  3. Step onto the absorbent mat to dry footwear of excess liquid.

Following this easy three-step process helps prevent the spread of walked in bacteria and infectious viral particles.

How do disinfection mats work?

Unlike classic clean-off entrance mats, disinfectant foot mats do more than just remove dirt and moisture from shoes. They also kill germs and bacteria by disinfecting the soles of shoes, thus reducing the risk of contamination.

Disinfection mats have been used for a long time in agriculture, the food industry and in the pharmaceutical sector. These mats often have a foot bath filled with disinfectant liquid, similar to our Disinfectant Shoe Bath.

New technologies are making it possible to equip mats without the use of liquid. These new mats have antimicrobial properties. This is done through the use of a biocide.

Which disinfection mats for which purpose?

For use in the food industry (such as slaughterhouses) and agriculture, the use of a classic disinfection mat like Hygimat is the first choice.

Care should be taken to lay an entrance mat after the disinfection mat in order to remove any residues and moisture from the footwear. These types of mats are often installed on tiled floors. Moisture under the sole can lead to slip accidents.

In the pharmaceutical industry and other areas, in which a clean room environment is necessary, adhesive mats (clean room mats) are often the preferred solution.

For public facilities and office buildings, we recommend the use of a doormat with antimicrobial properties, such as Entra-Clean Hygiene +. The mat offers a significant improvement in the fight against bacteria and viruses. These mats also retains its antimicrobial properties over the entire life of the mat. The low maintenance requirements and the attractive appearance make this doormat ideal for all facilities and companies that value a clean and hygienic appearance.

What is biosecurity and why is it important?

Biosecurity refers to measures aimed at preventing the introduction and/or spread of harmful organisms to animals and plants in order to minimise the risk of transmission of infectious diseases. In many industries, this is of the utmost importance. Investing in your biosecurity is critical for national & international production & trade as well as for poultry farmers.

What is the difference between a Shoe Bath and Boot Bath?

The primary difference between a Shoe Bath and a Boot Bath lies in their design and intended use environments. A Shoe Bath features flexible natural rubber nodules that deliver excellent dirt scraping and trapping action, while the disinfectant solution cleans and sanitises footwear. Made from 100% recycled rubber, it requires no installation and simply lies on a level surface, filled with COBA Care Disinfectant Solution. For drying footwear upon exit, it can be combined with an absorbent mat such as COBAwash®, Wash & Clean or Microfibre Doormat. The Shoe Bath is suitable for offices, commercial buildings, and workplaces where hygiene is crucial, such as healthcare, food manufacturing, catering, hospitality, clean rooms, or food retail. It has a slip-resistant base with bevelled edges to help retain its position and reduce tripping hazards.

On the other hand, a Boot Bath is designed for more demanding industrial environments. It features durable, industrial-grade rubber nodules for excellent dirt scraping and trapping action. It also has a deep well of disinfectant solution for cleaning and sanitising footwear. Made from 100% recycled rubber, it improves hygiene and contamination control and requires no installation. Lay the mat on a level surface an fill the base with COBA Care Disinfectant Solution. It can be paired with a suitable moisture control mat for drying footwear. The Boot Bath is ideal for heavy industrial settings such as mining, construction, engineering, and farming.

Like the Shoe Bath, it has a slip-resistant base with bevelled edges. However the Boot Bath has a height of 55 mm and an inside tray depth of 44 mm, compared to the Shoe Baths’ 26 mm and an inside tray depth of 16 mm. Making the Boot Bath more suitable for environments with higher contamination risks and larger boots.
