A Staircase Designed to Be Seen
In a luxury home, the staircase is rarely just a practical feature. It often becomes part of the architecture and contributes to the overall character of the interior.
At Louise House, a large residential villa in Cape Town, the open timber staircase forms a striking focal point within the living space. Warm wooden treads, glass balustrades and clean architectural lines create a modern and sophisticated finish.
The stair nosing needed to improve safety while complementing the carefully considered design of the home.
The Challenge
The timber staircase required a finishing solution that would define the edge of each step, improve underfoot grip and blend naturally with the surrounding materials.
Because the staircase is highly visible from several areas of the house, the selected profile also needed to feel like an intentional design detail rather than an added safety feature.
The solution had to provide:
- Clear definition along each stair edge
- Additional grip underfoot
- A consistent finish throughout the staircase
- A profile suited to a high end residential interior
- A colour that complemented the warm timber tones
The Selected Solution
COBA Flooring SA installed CAT AN21/3 Stair Nosing in a Brushed Brass finish with a black COBARib infill.
The brushed brass profile was selected to complement the natural colour of the timber and add a subtle premium detail to each step. The contrasting COBARib infill improves grip while making the edge of the tread easier to identify.
Together, the brass finish and black infill create a balanced look that works naturally with the timber staircase, dark structural elements and glass balustrades.
Careful Installation from Top to Bottom
The installation was completed by Granville and the COBA Flooring SA installation team in Cape Town.
Precision was essential throughout the project. Each stair nosing profile was carefully measured, positioned and aligned across the timber treads to maintain consistent lines throughout the staircase.
The quality of the installation ensures that the profiles sit neatly against the timber and follow the design of the staircase without interrupting its clean, open appearance.
The Result
The completed staircase combines safety, durability and design in one refined solution.
The CAT AN21/3 Stair Nosing adds clear step definition and dependable grip while enhancing the overall appearance of the staircase. The Brushed Brass finish introduces a warm metallic detail that complements the timber without overpowering it.
The final result feels cohesive, polished and suited to the quality of the home.
At Louise House, the stair nosing does more than finish the edge of each step. It contributes to a staircase that is safer to use, visually balanced and beautifully integrated into the surrounding architecture.
