The Project

When Excellerate JBI needed matting for the Omnipark project in Paarl, they approached COBA Flooring for a solution that could work across more than just the front door.

The building required matting for three distinct areas: the exterior entrance, the internal entrance and the lift. Each space presented a different requirement, so rather than relying on one product throughout, the project used a combination of matting solutions suited to each location.

PITS in Paarl became the distributor for the project, supplying the selected products.

A Layered Approach to the Main Entrance

The entrance was treated as more than a single matting area.

Super Contract Fall was specified at the exterior main entrance, creating the first line of defence before visitors enter the building. Exterior entrance matting plays an important role in scraping dirt, grit and outdoor debris from footwear before it is carried further inside.

Immediately inside the entrance, Alba in Anthracite provides the next stage of the system.

Alba is designed for high-volume entrance areas and internal walkways, where its nylon pile helps absorb moisture while standing up to repeated foot traffic. COBA Flooring SA also recommends Alba as part of a multi-stage entrance system in heavy-traffic environments.

Together, the two areas create a simple progression:

Outside: remove larger dirt and debris.

Black Super Contract Fall entrance matting installed outside the glass entrance at Omnipark in Paarl.

Inside: capture remaining moisture and finer contamination.

Alba Anthracite entrance matting positioned inside the Omnipark entrance to help capture remaining dirt and moisture from incoming foot traffic.

The result is a more considered entrance rather than asking one mat to do everything.

Taking Matting Beyond the Front Door

The solution did not stop at the entrance.

Berber Point in Tactic was also supplied for the lift, helping protect an area that experiences concentrated daily foot traffic.

Berber Point is designed for commercial environments and is suitable for medium to heavy traffic. Its textured polypropylene surface provides scraper action while offering a more finished carpet appearance for interior spaces.

Using the product within the lift allows the matting strategy to continue deeper into the building while complementing the timber-effect wall finish and stainless-steel detailing visible within the space.

Berber Point in Tactic installed inside a lift at Omnipark, Paarl, surrounded by timber-effect wall panels and stainless-steel trim.

The Result

The completed Omnipark project demonstrates why commercial matting should be considered according to where and how each area is used.

Rather than specifying one generic product throughout, the project combines:

Each product has a specific role, but together they create a coordinated solution designed to manage dirt and moisture, protect surrounding flooring and maintain a professional appearance throughout key traffic areas.

For commercial buildings, that can make the difference between simply placing a mat at the door and creating an entrance strategy that works with the building.
