Why is entrance matting essential for your building?

Safety

The most common type of accident to members of the public, we recommend preventing floors getting contaminated as the first course of action. Correctly specified and installed entrance matting works hard to remove excess dirt and moisture from footwear and wheeled traffic. Entrance matting provides a safe walking surface to prevent slips and trips. It is a legal requirement to keep entrances accessible and safe to access by all.

Interior floor protection

Entrance matting prevents external moisture and debris from entering the building by scraping contaminants from footwear and wheeled traffic. The matting collects the contaminants and stops them from being transferred onto the buildings’ interior flooring. An entrance matting zoning system is recommend for optimum cleaning and protection, see our ‘Tips for first time entrance matting buyers’.

Reduced maintenance costs

As a result of effective entrance matting trapping dirt, footwear will be cleaner and internal flooring will require less cleaning and maintenance, reducing overall costs. It takes a minimum of about six footsteps to wipe moisture and debris from footwear as people walk. It’s important to note the more footfall the longer the entrance matting needs to be to prevent contaminants from being walked into the building.

First impressions

A well maintained entrance, which is clean, tidy and fits with your branding will definitely score points with your visitors, as we all know ‘first impressions count’. Entrance matting must be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing in order to be effective. We’re able to offer a wide range of entrance matting options in terms of finish, style and colour, see some of our latest case studies.

Design

Well designed, entrance matting can complement the overall look and feel of an entrance, providing functional and aesthetic benefits. The colour of your entrance matting can be used to reflect business personality and complement surrounding colour tones.

There are many different types of entrance matting within our aluminium entrance matting and carpet entrance matting ranges to suit individual needs.

When is it best to use loose lay entrance mats?

What are loose lay entrance mats?

Loose lay entrance mats are matting that does not have to be installed either in a matwell or adhered to the floor. They can simply be placed onto the floor surface and then removed quickly and easily when no longer needed. It is not necessary to prepare the floor and does not warrant installation by a professional flooring contractor. Loose lay entrance matting is cost-effective, easy to ‘install’ (simply lay to the floor) and can be relocated to different areas if needed. There are loose lay entrance mats available for both commercial and domestic use.

When is it best to use loose lay entrance matting?

Loose lay entrance matting can be used in a number of different ways. For example, we provide loose lay matting that can be used to offer extra protection from the risk of slipping to employees indoors as well as outdoors.

The purpose of entrance matting is to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture, to protect interior floor surfaces. We also have loose lay matting that can be used for domestic environments to help keep dirt and contaminants out of the home.

Our Rampmat loose lay entrance matting is the ideal choice for slip-resistant matting for outdoor use. Rampmat is ideal for areas with heavy pedestrian traffic and can help reduce the risk of slips and falls even in icy conditions.

First-Step is ideal for those who have hygiene in mind. Not exactly a conventional mat, First-Step is designed with ‘tacky’ sheets to collect dirt and dust from footwear. Once the top sheet becomes soiled it can be simply peeled off to reveal a clean layer. First-Step comes with self-adhesive backing which can be stuck directly to floor surfaces. It supports contamination control for hospitals and clean rooms, as well as for general industrial and food contact applications.

COBAwash® is ideal for commercial as well as domestic use, available in a number of sizes, including smaller sizes which can be washed in a domestic washing machine. COBAwash® is reusable and can be a cost-effective way to trap debris, dirt and dust at the entrance point of a building.

Do your entrance mats reduce moisture and dirt being walked into the building?

Yes, all of our entrance matting has been designed to reduce moisture being walked into buildings.

What’s the recommended size for entrance matting?

We can’t stress the importance of length enough when it comes to entrance matting, and the optimum length for moisture wiping. A long enough ‘walk off’ area is needed because people don’t stop to wipe their feet. Our team at COBA Flooring recommends allowing a minimum of six footsteps to wipe footwear.

Also bear in mind, disabled accessed. It takes a minimum of 2.5m length of matting to clean a full revolution of a wheelchair.
