Sustainability

At COBA Flooring, we are passionate about protecting our planet and investing in beautiful flooring solutions that make a positive impact. We have made it our mission to supply flooring made from discarded fishing nets for stunning, eco-friendly tiles. By doing so, we are not only reducing plastic waste but also helping to preserve our oceans and marine life.

Why recycled fishing nets, you may ask? The answer lies in their environmental impact.

Fishing nets account for a significant portion of plastic pollution in our oceans, causing harm to marine ecosystems and endangering countless species. By repurposing these nets, we are giving them a new lease on life and preventing them from further contributing to this global problem.

We have developed ECONYL® registered product range to assist with the issue of waste by utilising materials that would otherwise end up in landfills or pollute our oceans. By transforming these waste materials into a valuable resource, ECONYL® reduces the demand for virgin materials and minimises environmental impact. ECONYL® is produced from a diverse blend of waste materials, including post-industrial and post-consumer sources such as textiles, old carpets, fishing nets, and industrial scraps.

Fishing nets make up a significant portion of ocean plastic pollution, posing a severe threat to marine life. ECONYL® takes these discarded fishing nets and gives them a second life, helping to mitigate the harmful effects on our oceans and protecting marine ecosystems. ECONYL® is part of the circular economy, which aims to minimise waste generation and maximise resource efficiency. By using recycled materials, ECONYL® reduces the need for extracting new raw materials, thus promoting a more sustainable and regenerative approach to production.

Overall, ECONYL® registered brands play a crucial role in promoting sustainability by reducing waste, conserving resources, and supporting the circular economy. By utilising ECONYL® yarn in our products, you can demonstrate your commitment to sustainability and contribute to a more environmentally responsible future.

Did you know that aluminium is recyclable an infinite amount of times?

Aluminum is derived from bauxite ore, a finite resource. By recycling aluminum, we can significantly reduce the need for extracting new bauxite, conserving natural resources. Recycling aluminum consumes only a fraction of the energy required for primary production, making it an environmentally preferable option.

The production of aluminum from recycled material requires up to 95% less energy compared to primary aluminum production. This energy savings translates into reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a smaller carbon footprint. Recycling aluminum helps to mitigate climate change and minimise reliance on fossil fuels.

The infinite recyclability of aluminum aligns with the principles of the circular economy. By continuously recycling aluminum, we can create a closed-loop system where the material can be repurposed and reused indefinitely. This reduces the need for virgin aluminum production and promotes a more sustainable and resource-efficient economy.

Promoting and encouraging the recycling of aluminum can help create a more sustainable and resource-efficient society. It not only conserves natural resources, saves energy, and reduces waste but also supports the development of a circular economy and mitigates environmental impacts. We provide a wide range of aluminium entrance matting solutions that can be reused or repurposed to support a cicular economy.

Reducing energy use

COBA carbon-offsets all the gas used at its main facility in Warwickshire, which recently totalled 9.13 tonnes over a four-month period. The building also features solar panelling on its roof to further reduce the organisation’s dependence on the grid.

Walk through Millfield Wood in this short video with us

We all know that we can do more to lessen our impact on the environment, so we take pride in playing a little role in improving the National Forest. The aim of creating the first forest in England from over one thousand years is a campaign we enjoy supporting.

We’ve been sponsoring tree planting for a number of years, but in 2019, we became partners, and by doing so, we’ve become even more committed to the charity. Millfield Wood is just a mile away from our facilities, so having these green areas to walk in our local community is really important to us.
