What is matwell flooring?

What’s the difference between a matwell frame and a matting trim?
They’re often used interchangeably, but a matwell frame specifically finishes a recessed matwell, while a matting trim (or edging) can also be used on surface-mounted mats that sit on top of the floor rather than in a recess. Both serve the same purpose: protecting mat edges and giving a clean, professional finish.
Do I need a matwell frame if I already have a recessed matwell?

What is an expansion joint frame used for?
Expansion joint frames are designed for locations where the floor structure needs room to move, such as over building expansion joints. They accommodate that movement without compromising the seal or finish around the matwell.
